Celebrity Baby Names of 2011

Celebrity Dads

As we near the end of the year, we wanted to take a moment to reflect on a few unique celebrity baby names with a little help from an MSN article detailing some of the wackiest – or, some might say, creative – celebrity baby names of 2011.

And here they are:

David Beckham and Harper Seven

Beginning with the Beckham’s beautiful baby girl Harper Seven. MSN claims, “Victoria and David decided to name their fourth child, their first daughter, after Victoria’s favorite author Harper Lee, who wrote To Kill A Mockingbird. The A-list pair even managed to help boost sales of the 60’s novel by 123% shortly after the name of their little girl was announced – that’s one powerful baby name! Literally speaking, Harper is a traditional English name and means ‘harp player’. Her middle name Seven – after David’s football shirt number – is predicted to cause a surge of number names in babies for the next year or so. And who said the Beckhams aren’t trendsetters?”

I do seem to remember the trend of old fashioned baby names becoming popular, and this seems the case of Arthur, Claudia Winkleman and Kris Thykier’s son. Again, MSN took a look at this name discussing it’s original meaning – and then some; “It may seem an odd choice of a name for a baby born in 2011, reserved for old men and cartoon aardvarks, but we admire TV presenter Claudia’s choice to call her son Arthur, or ‘Art’ for short. There’s been a huge insurgence of older traditional names being re-used and Arthur, meaning ‘bear-king’ or ‘stone’, is one of the most weighty names with historical importance. We had a famous king with that name, after all.”

Bingham Hawn

In the line-up for  possibly the most interesting name this year we have Bingham Hawn, Kate Hudson and Matt Bellamy’s son. “On 9 July actress Kate Hudson and Muse rocker Matt Bellamy welcomed their first child together into the world, a boy with a slightly original name – Bingham Hawn Bellamy, or Bing for short. Bingham is Matt’s mum’s maiden name and Bing Russell was Kurt Russell‘s dad (Kurt is Kate’s stepfather) so there are plenty of family connections,” explains MSN. That’s one way to pick a baby name!

And moving right along we have Agnes Lark, Jennifer Connelly and Paul Bettany’s lovely daughter. See what I meant about the old-fashioned trend? MSN discussed this original name in saying, “Bringing back the vintage name Agnes was a majorly successful move by thespian couple Jennifer Connelly and Paul Bettany. The name, derived from the Greek word for ‘purity’, goes nicely with the middle name Lark, a songbird.”

Flynn Christopher, son of Miranda Kerr and Orlando Bloom was adorned with a name that means “son of the red-haired one,” according to MSN. That leaves us with the question; does one of his parents secretly have red hair? Well, MSN assures us, “Neither Miranda nor Orlando has red hair, but it’s a nice name anyway! His second name, Christopher, is in memory of Miranda’s first boyfriend Christopher Middlebrook, who passed away after they had been together for two years when they were teenagers. The model explained: ‘After [Christopher] died, I wrote him a letter that said I hoped to name my first child after him in some way. I told Orlando and he was the one who said he’d be happy to do that. Orlando’s a good guy.’” A truly lovely story to go with a unique name and a beautiful child.

Emma Buntons baby Tate

Nearing the end of our story on interesting names here’s Tate, son of Emma Bunton and Jade Jones. “Aside from slightly reminding us of some famous art galleries, the name Tate has a substantial meaning. Deriving from the Middle East (although some sources claim it’s of English origin) it’s believed to mean ‘cheerful’ and, with a mum like former Spice Girl Emma, we’re sure he’ll have lots of cheer in his life,” says MSN.

The final name on the list belongs to the son of Alicia Silverstone: Bear Blu. MSN didn’t have much to say about this distinct name; but one thing is certain – he’s sure to be quite a character!

And that concludes 2011’s unique celebrity baby names. To read the full article from MSN, visit: http://celebrity.uk.msn.com/features/the-best-celebrity-baby-names-of-2011. I can’t even image what 2012 will bring– only time will tell!

Until then,
