Christmas Bear Drive
Christmas is just around the corner, and the DaddyScrubs team is looking forward to decorating the tree, wrapping presents, and sharing Holiday cheer with people near and far.
We’re very excited to announce we’re participating in a Bear Drive created and hosted by Emery M., a young man on a mission to bring cheer to children who are spending Christmas in a hospital.
Emery was born with a hole in his heart and severe valve issues; he has had four open-heart surgeries and has spent a great deal of time in hospitals himself.
In an effort to figure out an extra special way to complete a school project and “pay it forward,” Emery came up with the idea of having a Teddy Bear Drive. The goal was simply to do something nice for someone else in hopes they cycle would continue, and we think Emery was beyond successful in that.
During the first Bear Drive in 2010, people throughout the country donated 485 teddy bears (and 600 non-teddy bear stuffed toys, too). Emery and his family delivered the 485 bears to Phoenix Children’s Hospital and donated the 600 non-teddy bears to a local crisis nursery. In 2011 the project continued with a total of 1400 donated bears and 800 non-teddy bears.
This year, Emery would like to collect another thousand bears to take to children in local hospitals, and with the help of generous folks in communities around the country, we’re certain he will reach his goal!
