Proud new daddy, and author of DADspirations The 1st 100 Days of Fatherhood, Pete Densmore recently welcomed a beautiful baby into the world! And for the arrival of his child, Pete proudly wore a pair of our signature DaddyScrubs.
I had the pleasure of speaking with Pete, and asking with him about being a brand new daddy! Here’s what he had to say:
Q: What was your first thought upon holding your brand new bundle of joy?
A: The 3 things I thought of when I first held her in my arms were: boy the pizza I stole from the hospital floor’s community refrigerator was good (I hadn’t eaten in twelve hours.); how do I make sure she ends up with a good guy like Daddy; and how do I make sure she knows that being smart is cool.
Q: What advice do you have for other new and expectant parents?
A: Listen to each other and do what YOU both feel is right; trust your instincts before anyone else’s.
Q: How did you feel wearing your DaddyScrubs at the hospital?
A: I felt comfortable and confident; almost like I was part of the delivery team.
Q: What was the reaction you received from people at the hospital when you wore your DaddyScrubs?
A: People loved them! When our doctor was running late, the resident joked that I looked the part and the back of my scrubs should have said, “I’m now the Doctor.”
The entire DaddyScrubs team feels incredibly lucky to have been able to share in such a wonderful moment with Pete and his family. While speaking with Pete, he was able to share a bit about his new book, too!
Q: Can you tell us a little bit about your book?
A: DADspirations: The First 100 Days of Fatherhood compiles the ultimate set of inspirations for the expecting and new father. This fast-reading, humorous book includes an actionable checklist of essential ideas to help inspire dads to become the best father they can be. Dads can expect 35 weekly ideas for a dad, his spouse and their newborn during the 100 days. These weekly ideas are what I coin DADspirations and for the first 13 weeks (91 days) I did two things a week and for the final nine days, I did one thing a day, just for my baby girl.
Q: What inspired you to write the book, DADspirations: The First 100 Days of Fatherhood?
A: For starters, it got me out of the house every night Tuesday for a few hours to write for six months, so that was a unexpected plus. On a more serious note, it was a way for me to be proactive in the parenting department. This book revolves around my second child—my daughter—and it really helped me focus on coming up with a proactive plan, because I was a little too laid back with junior #1 a couple of years ago. Not to say I was a deadbeat dad or anything when my son was born, I was just in awe of everything and kind of overwhelmed. I did my fair share of stuff like the swaddling, the diapering and all that good stuff, but looking back, I waited for everything to happen instead of going above and beyond. So, when we got the stellar news that Wifey was pregnant again, I made a commitment to my family that I would step it up as man, husband and father. Essentially, do the things for my little girl that I should have done for my little man. It’s one of the many wonderful things about having a second child—while you get the opportunity to make twice as many mistakes, you occasionally have the opportunity to be twice as super dad-ish. Plus, I’ve had a lifelong dream of writing an Amazon best seller. Everyone says to write what you know about and since I don’t know the first thing about writing a book that focuses on teenage vampires or futuristic teenage death matches, this is my best shot at fulfilling that dream, so far….
