A Dad’s Greatest Gift is the Birth of His Child: Meet Raoul S.
I recently had the pleasure of interviewing one of our newest ClubDaddy members, Raoul S. about his experiences as a daddy and here’s what he had to say:
Q: How did you find out you were about to become a daddy?
A: I was on my way to work. My wife called me and said that she had taken a pregnancy test and it was positive. I was extremely excited and thought about it the whole day. I couldn’t tell anyone so I had to contain my excitement until I got home. It was tough!
Q: Did you make any midnight craving runs for your expectant wife?
A: My wife had to have ice cream every night. I ended up going to Baskin Robbins and the grocery store for ice cream in the evening (never midnight but late enough). After a few times doing this, we bought a case of Haagen Daaz ice cream bars from Costco. We always kept it in the house and this fulfilled her cravings.
Q: What has been your favorite moment so far as a daddy?
A: My favorite moment so far was the day that I found out we were going to have a girl. We had two boys and my wife and I really wanted to have a girl. I wasn’t 100% convinced to have a third child knowing the odds were against us of having a girl after having two boys. We decided to try anyway. At the ultrasound, we had the tech write the gender on a piece of paper and place it in an envelope. We then went to the car for privacy and my wife asked me to open the envelope. I opened it and said, “its what we thought.” We were both expecting it to say boy, and in that moment I do not know how I had the idea to trick her. She said, “let me see” so I handed her the paper. She screamed when she saw “girl”. For a brief second she was mad that I tricked her but then we both cried and hugged each other. We couldn’t believe it and had to read the letter a few times to make sure we read it properly. I actually wanted to go back in and confirm with the tech but my wife said no.
Q: What advice do you have for other new parents?
A: My advice for other parents would be to not be so rigid when it comes to raising your child. There are going to be so many times when you plan for something and your child is not going to cooperate with how you want that experience to go. Be flexible and understand that not everything goes as planned. The more relaxed and flexible you are, the more fun you will have with your kid.
Q: How do you feel wearing our signature DaddyScrubs?
A: I like them. They are comfortable and it is nice having some recognition for taking part in having a child. At least people recognize you for what you are, an amazingly happy first time dad.
Q: What’s your favorite DaddyScrubs product and why?
A: So far, all I have had a chance to wear are the scrubs. I really like them and will continue to wear them. I do like the t-shirts and the long sleeve t-shirt and look forward to getting them.
