Well the big day has come. It’s time to take the baby out of the protected household for the first time and into the world. This seems especially scary when you’re a first time parent. So far the few trips to the doctor have not been that bad, but now you’re getting ready to go to grandma’s house two hours away; or perhaps on an airplane, or even just the first venture to the park. What if you forget something? What if the baby’s needs are not being met? What if someone coughs on the baby? Should you carry the baby in a sling, use the stroller, or hold the baby in your arms? Do you have enough diapers, food, and supplies?
I’ve put together a few survival tips that should help you and your baby have a successful first outing.
Be Prepared: In my world – thanks to Mrs. Daddy Nickell, we come fully prepared! She has a “Plan for the worst and hope for the best” mentality that hasn’t failed us yet. .. We have found that being extremely prepared helps alleviate a bit of stress and pressure, so we can focus entirely on the baby. First things first. Pack a diaper bag with all of the essentials and then some. A burp cloth, diapers, wipes, hand sanitizer, ointments and creams, a blanket, an extra onesie, rattle, pacifier and a bottle. Having all of these items organized and easily accessible in your diaper bag will help you and baby enjoy the outing a bit more.
Have a Plan: Make a plan ahead of time, so you know what to expect and what to prepare for. Always allow ample time for changes; remember to be flexible. Whether you and baby are going out for coffee with a friend, making a run to the grocery store to pick up dinner, or just going for a walk in the park – be prepared for a few hiccups along the way. Your new baby might need to stop to eat, have a diaper change, cry for a bit, etc. Remember Baby always comes first, so if you need to reschedule or make a change – go ahead and do that guilt free.

In the past, baby showers have typically been held for just the expectant mommy and her friends. But as the role of the daddy has changed throughout pregnancy, delivery, and beyond, people are starting to include the new dad in their baby showers, too.
Pro-party planner and organizer, Perezitos.com’s very own Amy Malin provides a list of suggestions on how mothers-to-be can easily incorporate the expectant daddy into the baby shower process.

New daddy Steve C. recently welcomed a beautiful baby girl into the world! And for the arrival of his daughter, Audrey Rose, Steve proudly wore a pair of Navy Blue Edgy DaddyScrubs and a Navy Blue “I’m the Daddy” Hat.
I had the pleasure of speaking with Steve, and asking with him about being a brand new daddy! Here’s what he had to say:
Q: What was your first thought upon holding your brand new bundle of joy?
A: I thought, wow, she looks a lot like me – just way more beautiful!!!
Q: What advice do you have for other new and expectant parents?
A: Enjoy the ride; it truly is a magical experience. For the guys out there, do whatever it takes to better the birthing process for your wife, and remember to keep telling her she is beautiful and encourage her to push.
Q: What was the reaction you received from people at the hospital when you wore your DaddyScrubs?
A: Some of the nurses and doctors had never seen or heard of DaddyScrubs before. They were an instant hit with the doctors and nurses. I even gave the tags of the scrubs to one doctor who liked them so much he hoped to give DaddyScrubs some future business. Another cool event was when I was in the parking lot after birth and a hospital visitor asked, “Excuse me, doctor do you know where ______ building is?” I paused for a second and said, “I am not a doctor; I’m just a daddy (as I pointed to my scrubs)” …and a happy one at that!

Over the past couple of weeks we’ve been highlighting the many celebrity babies of 2012. The Celebrity Baby Boom is still going strong, and we want to make sure you’re up to speed.
This week we’re starting with the talented Lisa Loeb. Loeb is married to Roey Hershkovitz, and the couple has a two-year-old daughter, Lyla Rose. Loeb is currently expecting this June. According to Parents.com, “Her hit song ‘Stay (I Missed You),’ which was featured on the soundtrack to the 1994 film Reality Bites. Since then, Loeb has recorded five studio CDs, starred in a reality show on E!, created children’s music, and launched her own eyewear line.”
Next up, also expecting this June is Molly Sims. Model, Sims, and husband Scott Stuber were married in 2011. According to Parents.com, “Sims wrote on her website that this will be ‘a honeymoon baby.’” Sims’ creative side took over when she announced her pregnancy to her hubby. Parents.com reminds us of this darling moment, “Sims told her husband that she was pregnant with a fortune cookie! ‘I hijacked the fortune cookie and typed a new message so that when he opened his cookie at the end of the meal, he found out he was going to be a daddy.’”
Model, Josie Maran, is also going to be a mommy. This stunning woman and boyfriend Ali Alborzi are expecting a baby in July. The couple has a five-year-old daughter, Rumi Joon. “After announcing her second pregnancy, Maran told People ‘I’ve already gotten back into prenatal yoga, and I’m just bracing myself for the weird food cravings to kick in — last time it was chocolate ice cream with pickles, so who knows what to expect this time!’” stated Parents.com.
The beautiful Jessica Capshaw is also expecting although she hasn’t announced a specific due date yet. Capshaw and husband Christopher Gavigan (co-founder of The Honest Company) have two children together, a 4-year-old boy and a 14-month-old girl. Parents.com reminds us of Capshaw’s exciting announcement on Twitter, “It is with profound happiness and sheer delight that @Christopher_Gav and I can say that another sweet Gavigan baby is on the way!”
And lastly, this week, we have reality star Kristin Cavalliri. Cavalliri hasn’t announced her due date yet, but she and fiancé Jay Cutler are very excited. We certainly can’t wait to meet the new arrival.
Stay tuned next week to learn about five more celebrity parents of 2012.
Sincerely,
Daddy Nickell’s Daughter

With Mother’s Day right around the corner, many kids and dads are wondering how to shower mom with their appreciation for everything she does. Mom might say she doesn’t want any gifts, but she’ll love receiving something given from the heart. So how do you let mom know she is the root of the family?
I have six kids of my own, ranging from 6 months to 25 years, and they’ve taught me a thing or two about gifts and activities mom is sure to love on Mother’s Day that will also provide good bonding time for dad while the preparations are being made.
Here are a few unique and meaningful gifts and activities mom will treasure for a lifetime.
1. Plaster plaque. Make your own stepping stone kit. Create with special sayings or memories of fun times with mom. Handprints solidified in cement are cherished forever!
2. Pottery painting store. All kids can make dessert plates while dad makes the cake platter. Make her a new, favorite coffee mug. Design a special picture frame and then add your favorite photo of the kids and mom.

DaddyScrubs attended Jayneoni Moore’s Boom Boom Room preceeding the Golden Globes where we had the pleasure of meeting lots of celebrity parents – including Gilles Marini.
Marini is a popular French actor well known for his roles in Sex and the City: The Movie, Brothers & Sisters and more.
Prior to a career in acting, Marini worked in his dad’s bakery while attending high school. He joined the French army, and was stationed in Paris; it was in Paris he met Fred Goudon, a photographer who got Marini into modeling.
He later moved to the United States to pursue his modeling career, and found himself acting in the 2005 horror movie Screech of the Decapitated. Since 2005 he has played roles in Ugly Betty, Dirty Sexy Money, Criminal Minds, Nip/Tuck, The Bold and the Beautiful and Passions.
If you don’t recognize Marini from any of the above shows, you’re sure to remember him from Dancing with the Stars. Marini and his dance partner Cheryl Burke competed in the 8th season and took 2nd place.
